Today Chase was moving around more, but he wasn't thrashing like he was on Friday. He was coughing a lot and the nurse kept having to suction out his airway. He is still on the ventilator but most of the breathing is being done by him. He squeezed my hand tonight when he was coughing and having a hard time breathing. When I would try to let go he would hold on tighter. I guess he needed me there. This morning the Trauma doctor said that they had found by looking at the MRI further what looks like more little spots of bleeding in his brain. He said that is probably why he's not waking up or responding very well other than to some stimulus. But he also said that he still feels Chase will wake up but likely not for awhile. Looks like it might be awhile before I get to look at those baby blues for more than a quick flutter. He has had a fever for a couple of days now so they keep a fan on him and give him tylenol on occasion. His outer wounds that are visible are healing and are looking better.
I met the mother of the young man who hit Chase today. It was a very emotional meeting to say the least. She simply wanted to meet me "mother to mother" and express how sorry she and her family were. She wanted us to know that they are praying for Chase. I know her son is going through a very difficult time as well.
Keep the prayers coming. I know they are helping. Thank you all!
Love,
Michelle
