Chase had an ok day today. He got over-stimulated with too much going on and too much visiting. His girlfriend, Jessica, was there and spent quite a bit of time with him. He also had Jeff and I and his dad with one visit from Grandma. By later in the afternoon he was pretty agitated and we had to back off and give him some rest. The nurses told us that the only people allowed to see him for the rest of the day was his 3 parents.
Not even his girlfriend was allowed to see him again. They told us that they really don't want anyone but family back there anymore until he is out of ICU and even then his visits will be very limited. He has some pretty good head trauma to recover from although he is coming along well. He just can't be stimulated too much and needs a lot of rest.
He was asked questions like "Who is the President of the United States?", "What year is it?", "What is your full name?", "Do you have brothers or sisters and what are their names?", etc. He passed with flying colors so that was great.
I had a hard time today with the fact that sometimes he's great and seems normal and sometimes he's just angry or doesn't make much sense or says very inappropriate things (like swearing a lot). The nurses and doctors tell us it's all normal but it's still difficult and takes a toll on me.
He'll be having surgery on his arm/shoulder tomorrow morning. They'll be putting in some pins and plates from what I understand. It will be the same doctor who repaired his leg that will do his shoulder.
Well, I'm exhausted and ready to drop so I'm going to call it a night. Keep the prayers coming... we feel the power of them and feel of your love.
Love,
Michelle
