Friday the 13th

Chase has moved to a new room now. He has 24 hour supervision as he is still so easily agitated and tries to move around too much. He has to be strapped down to keep him from trying to sit up and to keep him from pulling his tubes out and hurting himself. He's pretty confused still but we do get glimpses of the old Chase. Most of the time he doesn't really sound much like him though. Although he does answer the questions they ask him pretty well. He knows who we all are and he knows he's in the hospital.

When the physical therapist was in with him today he had him just sit on the edge of the bed with help. He leaned over to Jeff and put his head on his shoulder and patted his back (first hug). Jeff and I both started to cry. When I was sitting on the couch in front of the window, the therapist asked Chase to look out the window and tell him what he saw. His response was "Mom". :) He continually asks for water but can't have it yet as they are working with swallowing and are worried about him aspirating it into his lungs thus resulting in possible pneumonia. The therapist told him this when he was asking for it. Then Chase asked again. When he asked him if he remembered why he couldn't have it Chase swore at him and told him he was mean. But then shortly after he did repeat the reason correctly. He reminds me of a small child right now (except for the swearing part).

Some days I deal with things fairly well and some days I don't. Today I didn't. I just really struggled with everything. I cried quite a bit... I have days like that (too often).

Well, time for bed because once again, I'm exhausted! At least we're moving forward now. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. We couldn't do this without all of you!

Love,
Michelle

  1. Yeah Michelle, the swearing is quite common...I still remember my brother doing this...as well as trying to pull tubes out as he said they itched.

The confusion will clear up as his brain heals more and more. My main focus in my distance healing has been with his brain and the legs.

I am glad you, Jay and Gil got to meet face to face :).

    HUGS..
