Day #2 in Rehab

It's hard to be at work during the morning (until 1:00) when I want to see Chase but in a way it's good too. It gives me a sense of normalcy. I think we all need that. About 7:30 AM I got a phone call (was getting ready to leave for work) from the Intermountain Medical Center (hospital). I was worried at first wondering what happened. Turns out it was Chase calling me from his room with the help of the CNA that was sitting with him. I answered the phone and he said "Hi Mom". I was pleasantly surprised. He called because he wanted to see me and asked if I was coming to visit him. I told him that I would as soon as I got off work. He said ok and I assured him that Jeff was on his way. What a fun way to start off my day. He still calls me Mommy most of the time right now. He hasn't called me that since he was like 4. I kind of like it. :)

His rehab went well today. I miss the morning stuff but Jeff has been there for it. He says he's doing well and is good to call me at work and let me know how things are going. I was there for physical therapy and speech therapy in the afternoon. During physical therapy they had him stand and bounce a ball to him to see if he could catch it and bounce it back. He did well with that. He also had to walk down the hall a little way. He didn't want to but finally did. The therapist had him stand and sit slowly. She wanted him to do it 5 times and he said no. So she said 4? No. 3? No. So she asked him how many times he would do it and he said 1. ;) She talked him into 2. During speech therapy they worked on memory and reading. He did well with that. He was supposed to do some math too but struggled a little with it. All in all, a good day though.

Chase is also eating better and is able to drink regular liquids today. He likes that. He wanted Dr. Pepper and water (also had some chocolate milk).

The rest of us are doing pretty well considering everything. I always say that when Chase has a good day, I have a good day. Today was a good day.

Love,
Michelle
